The Weekend Playlist – Week ending March 12th 2017

Hello everyone and welcome to the weekend playlist where we give you our personal thoughts on what has been occupying our weekends.

This weekend the whole UGNN team apart from Sam & Tea has recommendations for you this week so without further ado, let’s get started.

Matthew McNamee; Chief Editor at UGNN:

Horizon: Zero Dawn – Guerrilla Games – Sony Computer Entertainment

Last Game Played – Horizon: Zero Dawn

So this week I’ve been playing way too much of Danganronpa 1.2 Reload in order to review it (Be sure to keep an eye out this week for a review) but the last game I played this week is a game I’ve been really excited about playing in the form of Horizon: Zero Dawn. So after finally playing this game for about 4 hours; I am really happy to say that this game is truly incredible. The world that is available to explore is truly breathtaking and the music that accompanies you as you fight to survive and explore the harsh reality of this ruined world is just incredible. I also feel that Aloy is an incredible character and could have a very interesting story ahead of her. The gameplay however is its true stand-out feature since it is a great combination and blend of multiple styles of gameplay and it is just truly remarkable. Right now I’m definitely thinking that I might even do a review of this game for the hell of it. Needless to say, from what I have played so far; I feel this could actually be my favorite game of the year. Definitely check this game out.

Last Movie Watched – Beauty & The Beast (1991)

So the last movie I managed to watch this week was this all time classic and one of my top 3 Disney movies of all time in preparation for the live action remake of it this Friday coming in the form of Beauty & The Beast. Beauty & The Beast takes place in France and follows the story of a young prince who through his shallow perceptions and arrogance becomes cursed by a witch to live as a hideous beast unless he can find someone who loves him for who he is rather than his appearance. To break the spell, the prince must learn to love another and earn her love in return before the rose’s last petal falls on his 21st birthday. If he fails, he will remain a beast forever. 10 years later; A young girl named Belle who is beautiful yet regarded as odd for being a bookworm goes in search of her father who is being held captive by The Beast. When Belle offers to swap places with her father; the two start to form a bond which would then transcend into a tale as old as time. Beauty & The Beast is a remarkable movie by Disney and as a work of cinematic history and it is easy to see why it won an Academy Award. The film contains beautiful animation, remarkable characters and an incredible soundtrack. Definitely watch this timeless classic if you haven’t already.

Last TV Show Watched – Scrubs

So this week in terms of television, I’ve went back to my little Scrubs marathon and I am currently plowing my way through Season 5 which has possibly the best episode in the history of the show for me (My Lunch). Scrubs follows the life of young doctors; J.D., Elliot & Turk who start their medical internship at Sacred Heart Hospital where they have hilarious misadventures and at times very serious incidents which leads them to further better themselves as doctors. This show is probably my actual favorite show of all time because it has probably the best comedy I’ve ever seen and can be very serious when it needs to be. It’s a must watch.

Last YouTube Video Watched – Watermelon (Old Spice Advert)

I must have watched this old spice commercial so many times purely because of how random it is. It’s just such a funny and catchy advert that is easily up there with the best adverts of all time for me (along with the snowman irn-bru advert). Honestly I can’t describe just how good this advert is so just check it out and prepare for one of the best 30 second videos of your life.

Last Piece of Music Listened to – Monkey Wrench by Foo Fighters

As per usual, loads of music this week but the last one I listened to was Monkey Wrench by the Foo Fighters which I personally think is one of their best songs except from Best of You, Everlong & Walk. Definitely give it a listen.

Jonnie Dixon; Editor at UGNN:

Final Fantasy VI – Square – Square

Last Game Played – Final Fantasy VI

So after finishing Final Fantasy V, I decided to move onto VI and it’s no surprise I did considering it’s one of the best in the series (Probably my 4th favourite)

Final Fantasy VI is set in a world where technology is starting to reign and magic has disappeared, however you start the game as a young woman who is able to control magic, the Empire use the young woman (Terra) to try and find magical beings known as Espers, Terra manages to break free of their control and joins a rebel group trying to take down the empire…..All in all FFVI does sound incredibly basic in the plotline but it’s far from it, VI has quite a lot of twists and turns but mainly VI’s greatest aspect is its huge cast of characters who for the most part are all fantastic, Final Fantasy VI also has arguably the best soundtrack and DEFINITELY the best Villain in the series in Kefka Palazzo

But I’d highly recommend checking it out, I’m currently playing the PS1 version on Vita but I’d probably recommend getting the Steam version or even the Original SNES version instead.

Last Movie Watched – The Shining

The Shining is a film about a Man named Jack Torrance who takes a Job care taking and looking after the Overlook hotel during the winter, he has to stay there for an extended period of time with his Wife and Young Son who also seemingly has some weird powers which can let him talk to certain people through his mind, needless to say Jack starts to see things and he begins to break down mentally over his extended time at the Overlook

A lot of Horror Film buffs should’ve seen this at this point, explaining it was pretty much just a formality, I will say that despite me watching this film nearly Annually, I really do feel it’s overrated, I feel the performances aren’t too great except for Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, I just feel this film never really explains itself enough and never manages to creep me out, even the scares I don’t think are too great except for maybe the two twins in the hallway, however even that is ruined by the sons stupid face he pulls in my opinion, all in all I do still think The Shining is good but it definitely is not great and I feel it shouldn’t be regarded as one of the best horror movies but that’s just my opinion.

Last TV Show Watched – Ultimate Beast Master

Was recommended this by Matt and being a lover of game shows I decided to check it out, I have to say I’m liking this so far, it’s giving me a real Ninja Warrior feel and that’s good enough in my book.

Last YouTube Video Watched – Latest Movie Fights

Basically whenever I put Movie Fights on here, I’ll just try and answer the questions, everyone who reads this and who is a film fan I’d highly recommend subscribing to Screen Junkies on Youtube, they really know their stuff.

Improve a Film By Adding King Kong – I don’t really have an opinion on this, not a Kong fan

Best James Cameron Movie – Terminator 2: Judgement Day

What Superhero Actor Should Return for a film when they’re old – Chris Evans/Captain America

Nerdiest Movie Ever – The Wizard

Last Piece of Music Listened to – The Lord of the Rings Main Theme

Huge LOTR nerd, this theme might be my favourite film theme ever, I listen to it very regularly.

Connor Cleminson; Editor at UGNN:

Lego Worlds – Traveller’s Tales – Warner Bros. Interactive

Last Game Played – Lego Worlds

Last Movie Watched – War Games

Last TV Show Watched – The Walking Dead

Last YouTube Video Watched – Xisuma Recent Sky Factory

Last Piece of Music Listened to – I Ejaculate Fire by Dethklok

Luke Harrison; Editor at UGNN:

No Man’s Sky – Hello Games- Hello Games – Sony Computer Entertainment

Last Game Played – No Man’s Sky

Okay don’t judge me, I got it again but this time for free… it’s still meh but I haven’t yet gave the new additions a full go.

Last Movie Watched – Nacho Libre

This movie starring jack black is definitely not a great masterpiece but… for some reason I really love it. Why? It’s a feel good movie, it’s pretty funny and it has wrestling so it has a nice mix of things.

Last TV Show Watched – WWE Smackdown Live

It counts, it’s a weekly show on TV so why not, also I love professional wrestling. And wrestlemania is upon us and I can’t wait.

Last YouTube Video Watched – Monopoly with the Derp Crew (Chilled Chaos)

I’ve decided to watch his monopoly videos and they’re great, gets me in the mood to play monopoly and the derp crew overall are hilarious.

Last Piece of Music Listened to – Army of the Night by Powerwolf

Great power metal music from German metal band powerwolf, it’s a but intense with a but of a operatic sound.

Below is the feature image for this weeks weekend playlist made by Tenacious Tea featuring Lego Worlds, Horizon: Zero Dawn, No Man’s Sky & Final Fantasy VI.
