The Weekend Playlist – Week ending 27th November 2016

Hello everyone and welcome to the weekend playlist where we give you our personal thoughts on what has been occupying our weekends.

This week’s weekend playlist consists of Myself, Connor, Luke & Sam (whose game is not included in the wallpaper since his submissions were posted after the image was made) so without further ado.

Matthew McNamee; Chief Editor at UGNN:

Last Game Played – Tearaway: Unfolded

So the last game that I played was Tearaway Unfolded. So I’ve been wanting to play Tearaway for a long time now and with the black friday sales, I managed to pick up the PlayStation 4 version really cheap at the low price of £4.85. From what I’ve played so far, I’m just in love with how creative and unique this title is from it’s visual art style to the different gameplay mechanics and just how the game genuinely plays. After playing serious games the past few weeks like Assassin’s Creed II & The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition; I just loved being able to play something nice and quirky like this game. Definitely getting me excited to see more of Dreams and I recommend this game to everyone, especially given how cheap it is to pick up.

Last Movie Watched – Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Recently, I’ve been watching quite a few movies however this was the last one that I saw due to me getting prepared to see Rogue One at midnight in a few weeks. Star Wars: The Force Awakens despite the many times I have seen this movie (I think I saw it about 5 times at the cinema) still remains incredible each time I watch it and is easily among my favorites in the series (along with Empire Strikes Back & Revenge of the Sith). The movie takes place many years after the events of Return of the Jedi and sees the rebellion looking for Luke Skywalker who has since gone missing. Taking the place of the empire is The New Order ruled over by Supreme Emperor Snoake and led by Sith Warrior; Kylo Ren. In a desperate fight against the new order, A young engineer called Rey & A Stormtrooper called Finn must get to the rebellion with the assistance of Han Solo & Chewbacca to deliver a droid called BB-8 who has the location of Luke. This film has an incredible amount of Nostalgia and a fantastic cast. Definitely watch it if you haven’t already.

Last TV Show Watched – The Flash

So I once again caught up with The Flash this weekend and I was really worried when clicking the episode due to it being centered on the villain version of one of my favorite characters on the show in the form of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) who has been developing the powers of her villain alter-ego; Killer Frost. This episode saw a lot of conflict between the team and the different emotions that conflicted within Barry himself due to his guilt of creating flashpoint and causing everything that happens in the third series so far.

Last YouTube Video Watched – Honest Trailer – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964)

Decided to watch the honest trailer from this week for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and I love the honest trailers where they do it in the style of a musical such as a majority of the Disney honest trailers and Les Miserables. This is possibly one of the best honest trailers I’ve seen in a while and it actually makes you think about the real meaning to Rudolph. Definitely check it out if you can.

Last Book or Article Read – The Pitmen Painters by Lee Hall

So been reading this again because once again I’ve just been revising lines for auditions in 2017. This story is truly incredible and is just one of my favorite scripts of all time. Love it every single time I read it.

Last Piece of Music Listened to – Mercy – Muse

So despite being a huge fan of Muse in general, I was only introduced to this song through the launch trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight. I love this song so much that it’s one of the most played pieces of music on my phone and in a way I also feel that in addition to it also having meaning and connection to what I’m currently going through with things, It also feels like a perfect song for Batman aswell. Definitely recommended.

Brilliant movie, with such a loveable cast. As someone who’s not a big fan of harry potter, I recommend people to watch this movie. One of the best movies I’ve seen all year.

Last Game Played – No Man’s Sky –  Foundation Update

I understand and agree with most of the hate surrounding No Man’s Sky. I agree that it lied about a lot of features, which most players probably bought the game for. However, I ignored all of this and played the game that I was given and it wasn’t that bad. Everyone who I know and have seen say that No Man’s Sky is bad, either, haven’t played the game or have only played it for under 2 hours…Anyway, the foundation update is now out and it has added A LOT of shit to go through. Really excited to starting my experience again and I hope those who weren’t happy before, will check this out.

Last Movie Watched – Battlestar Galactica Miniseries

Basically, it is the 3hr long prequel to the 2004 remake of Battlestar Galactica. This series is one of my all-time favourites and I’ve just introduced it to my girlfriend so we are now working our way through the entire box set. Can’t wait for all her reactions when the important and tense shit happens. Anyone that has seen the series will know exactly what I’m talking about.

Last TV Show Watched – Battlestar Galactica Series 1

As mentioned above, I’ve started watching battlestar galactica again with my girlfriend who has never seen it before.

Last YouTube Video Watched – No Man’s Sky: Foundation Update (Version 1.1)

Also mentioned above, this patch/update is brilliantly demonstrated in the above video. I love it when game developer’s show of their updates in this format.

Last Book or Article Read – Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

This one again, but this time, my group has read through the entire play together and we have started to narrow down the 3hr long play into 20 minutes. Looking forward to performing this next year!

Last Piece of Music Listened to – Storm – Tim Minchin

Absolutely brilliant “beat-poem”. Very clever and just….just awesome. Definitely worth a watch.
