The Weekend Playlist – Week ending November 6th 2016

Hello everyone and welcome to the weekend playlist where we give you our personal thoughts on what has been occupying our weekends.

This week’s weekend playlist consists of myself (Matthew), Jonnie, Sam & Luke. So without further ado, let’s kick this weekends playlist off.

Matthew McNamee; Chief Editor at UGNN:

Last game you played – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition

So after finally getting the platinum on Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture on Friday, I finally got to delve back into Skyrim and spend a good amount of time in the game. What can I honestly say about Skyrim that hasn’t already been said? I mean for me a fantastic game is explored through the story, gameplay, characters, graphics and soundtrack aswell as lasting appeal and Skyrim honestly has it all. It is one of the few games that I truly define as a perfect game and surprisingly so far I have not encountered a single glitch so far other than a character turning his head around (Exorcist style) and this is like over 18 hours in. If you haven’t played this game yet, Please I urge you to try it.

Last movie you watched – Krampus

So this weekend I decided to finally start getting myself into the christmas spirit with a festive horror movie called Krampus which came out last December. I love this movie so much and have seen it so many times that I have actually lost count. The basic premise of the movie is that a young boy tears up his letter to Santa after his problematic family cause him to lose his christmas spirit. That night a blizzard overcomes the street and the shadow of St. Nicholas known as Krampus (Based on an actual Austrian Myth) comes to punish the family for their wickedness with an army of festive minions. This is a very cheesy and festive horror comedy that just instantly becomes a classic when you watch it and it gets better and better the more you watch it.

Last TV show you watched – Pretty Little Liars

So over the summer I was told to check this show out by one of my friends and the moment I started watching it I became addicted and watched all 7 seasons. While I finished up only in August, I still watch the occasional episodes between binge watches of other shows. The basic idea behind this show is that 4 friends come together on the year anniversary of their friends disappearance when they start to receive mysterious text messages from an unknown assailant who only goes by the name -A-. A sets out to reveal all of the girls secrets and ultimately ruin their lives in the process forcing the friends to work together to find out who their attacker is and what this persons involvement is in their friends disappearance. I highly recommend this show as it tackles all emotions perfectly, has some great acting and music, really good elements of mystery and murder (in the later seasons for the murder) and to me is one of the most addicting shows since Breaking Bad.

Last YouTube video you watched – Yoda – Rockin’ and Rollin’ (Bad Lip Reading)

So this video just appeared on my facebook feed a while ago and upon watching it I just had to watch it again. I keep finding myself laughing really loud at this video and honestly I can’t even explain why which definitely worries me haha. The video is just one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen and they call it bad lip reading but honestly it is incredible.

Last book or article you read – The Pitmen Painters by Lee Hall

So I’ve been re-reading this truly incredible script for a play which I will be auditioning for in a few months time (I was originally going to be in the show but it got delayed originally). The play tells the true story of a group of Ashington Miners who took up a further education course and learnt how to become artists. The play is a very heartfelt story and shows just how much loyalty can mean to people and just how tough it was to work in the coal mines.

Last piece of music you listened to – Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

For anyone who has read previous Weekend Playlist entries or knows me, This is easily my favorite song of all time. It’s just such an incredible piece of music and rightfully deserves a listen from anybody. This is the song that got me into listening to Imagine Dragons and has been in multiple things I like such as Arrow, The 100 and even games such as EA Sports UFC, MLB 13: The Show, Defiance and Assassin’s Creed III.

Sam Elliott; Editor at UGNN:

Last game you played – Mantis Burn Racing

Just came out of early access and I’m currently playing it for a review. At first it seemed like it could use some improving, but with time I really started to enjoy it. It’s a top down racer with unique game modes, should have the review up in the next couple of days.

Last movie you watched – N/A

Haven’t watched a new movie since the last time we did this so it’s still frequently asked questions about time travel. I still thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a clever and funny sci-fi.

Last TV show you watched – Task Masters Series 3

Brilliant comedy show hosted by Greg Davies (The headmaster from the inbetweeners). Basically, he makes other comedians do stupid tasks for him. Really funny, everyone should definitely look it up.

Last YouTube video you watched – Top 5 Outbursts – Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares

Don’t ask…this show and it’s highlights on YouTube have resulted in multiple all-nighters. Please send help.

Last book or article you read – Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Lovely comedy play that I will star in for my A-Level Drama. It’s about two couples at a dinner party. The older couple are really dysfunctional and fight all the time. The younger couple just feel awkward through out. The play takes place over one night and the actors get progressively drunk as the play goes on…

Last piece of music you listened to – Tears by Clean Bandit

Not their newest single, but I definitely prefer it to their other one. I actually went to see them 2 years ago at the O2 academy. Was a great night; great band.

Last game you played – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition

Skyrim the remaster just came out recently and I never really delved much into Skyrim before so this was a great chance to get to know the game properly, and as of now I’m really enjoying it….. Even after spending 7 hours and 41 minutes not knowing that I could sprint….. Now I do….

Last movie you watched – N/A

Haven’t seen anything new in terms of movies. Last one I saw was Inferno a few weeks ago so I’ll just leave this part clear. Definitely recommend Inferno though.

Last TV show you watched – N/A

Haven’t seen anything on TV this week.

Last YouTube video you watched – Shell Shock with Galm & Friends Part 15

Don’t really know what to say about this other than to check out the video

Last book or article you read – N/A

I can’t remember the last book or article I read.

Last piece of music you listened to – The Last Battle by Sabaton
