The Weekend Playlist – Week ending 23rd October 2016

Hello everyone and welcome to the return of The Weekend Playlist where we give you our personal thoughts on what’s been occupying our weekends.

This week we are bringing back this feature after 2 years away and this time we have some fresh blood in the mix. This weeks Weekend Playlist will consist of Me (Matthew) & Jonnie aswell as our 2 newest editors on the site; Sam & Luke. So without further ado lets get things off to a start.

Matthew McNamee: Chief Editor at UGNN:

Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy – Quantic Dream & Apyr – Atari Inc., Quantic Dream & Aspyr

Last Game Played – Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy (Remastered)

So I picked this up the other day via a special Halloween sale on the PlayStation Network given that I have wanted to try it for a while now.  One of the first games from Quantic Dream; Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy is a game where every choice you make effects you greatly including on a psychological level. The game allows you to play 4 different characters including Carla Valenti; A New York Detective investigating a gruesome murder and Lucas Kane; A man who during bouts of black outs awakes in gruesome murder scenes (usually with the killers weapons) and must figure out what is going on with the help of a special ability he has in which he has premonitions. Overall, I’ve played about 5 chapters in so far this weekend and I have to say I’m loving every second.

Last Movie Watched – 17 Again

So I finally decided to check this out since I have wanted to check it out for a good while. 17 Again revolves around 37 year old Mike O’Donnell (Matthew Perry) who while going through an extremely rough patch in his life (Wife divorcing him, Kids wanting nothing to do with him); finds himself falling off a bridge and waking up as his 17 year old self once more (Zac Efron). Seeing this as an opportunity to get his life back after everything he gave up; Mike enrolls into his kids’ school but soon finds out he is given this chance for a higher purpose. This movie was so much better than I expected given that I think the definitive type of this movie is Freaky Friday. It has a great cast including Leslie Mann & Michelle Trachtenburg. I’d say check it out if you wanna have a laugh for a few hours.

Last TV Show Watched – Friends & The Walking Dead

So I’ve been watching 2 shows this weekend. The first show I’ve been watching is Friends. Now to be completely honest until about a week/2 weeks ago…I had never seen friends in my life but I decided to finally start watching this from the beginning and so far I’m half way through Season 3. I’m loving this show so far and not only is it extremely funny but it also features a highly likable cast and some very very funny dialogue. Highly recommend it.

The second show I’ve been watching this weekend is The Walking Dead. With the new Season Premiere starting within a few hours of me typing this article; I decided it was about time I got caught up since I stopped watching The Walking Dead halfway through Season 6. Lately I’ve been feeling like the show has just been in a downward spiral and was getting extremely boring when I stopped however after catching up on the few episodes so far from the rest of Season 6; I have to say that it has been improved heavily and it is building up towards hopefully an incredible opening that can shake things up. I have no doubt in my mind that Negan will be an excellent character given that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has plenty of experience in playing Killers and Psychopaths as proven by his roles in Supernatural & Watchmen. Definitely check this show out.

*Please Note: The Below clip may contain spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 6 so unless you have caught up or don’t mind spoilers. Please don’t click.*

Last YouTube Video Watched – Best Zombie Movie w/Robert Kirkman (Movie Fights)

So the last YouTube video I watched was the latest episode of Screen Junkies Movie Fights which was a special given all the hype about the upcoming premiere of The Walking Dead Season 7. The episode featured special guest fighter; Robert Kirkman (Creator of The Walking Dead) tackling subjects such as Best Zombie Movie, Best Adaptation of a Graphic Novel & Who should play Captain Planet? This was a really funny episode and Robert Kirkman definitely makes it aswell as a pitch for a version of Homeward Bound with Zombies. Check it out if you wanna laugh for about 40 minutes. (P.S. I also recommend you subscribe to Screen Junkies since they also do Honest Trailers).

Last Book or Article Read – The Machine Gunners by Robert Westall

So the last book I read is a script called The Machine Gunners which was written by Robert Westall. The story revolves around a group of Children in WWII North East England who stumble across a downed German Plane and steal the Machine Gun attached to the plane. They then proceed to create a fortress to protect their country from the Nazi’s and any traitors who may get in their way. It’s definitely an interesting book and story and definitely sets the atmosphere of the time period. I look forward to performing it this week.

Last Piece(s) of Music Listened to – Various

So this week I’ve listened to a few great songs that I have to recommend. I can’t really say much other than I just personally like each of these and I’d definitely recommend you guys to check them out.

My Demons by Starset

Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding

Ballroom Blitz by Sweet

The Vengeful One by Disturbed

Jonnie Dixon: Editor at UGNN:

Batman: Arkham City Remastered – Rocksteady Studios – Warner Bros. Interactive

Last Game Played – Batman: Arkham City Remastered

There isn’t really anything I can say about Arkham City that hasn’t already been said, it’s one of the most phenomenal games ever made, and remastered for PS4 just gives me the perfect excuse for playing it again. For the most part the game is improved in every way but I have experienced a few errors which have booted me out of the game.

Last Movie Watched – The World’s End

I watched all 3 of the Cornetto trilogy earlier today, this was simply the one I watched most recently, nothing much to say here also…if you haven’t seen them, do so, they’re some of the most interesting and funny films out there and highly recommended.

Last TV Show Watched – Stranger Things

Netflix are seriously killing it with their original series, Orange is the New Black, Daredevil and now Stranger Things.

Stranger Things is like a mix between Silent Hill and Stand By Me, it is truly captivating and one of the most interesting TV Shows I’ve seen in a long time, I really don’t want to spoil it but if you have Netflix, watch it right now…Seriously.

Last YouTube Video Watched – Angry Video Game Nerd: Episode 142 – Berenstain Bears

Seriously one of the best videos that AVGN has ever done, I really didn’t expect it to be so interesting and it got me to check out a legit conspiracy theory that had me laughing more than I feel it should have.

Last Piece of Music Listened to – Africa by Toto

Fantastic song, heard it on the radio. Nuff said.

Manual Samuel - Perfectly Paranormal - Curve Digital
Manual Samuel – Perfectly Paranormal – Curve Digital

Last Game Played – Manual Samuel

It’s alright. I’m currently drafting a review on it so expect one in a few days. The game’s mechanics are a good idea, but the execution wasn’t there.

Last Movie Watched – Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel

Great comedy which came as a complete surprise. Anyone who likes nerdy and well thought out time travel movies should really check this out.

Last TV Show Watched – The Walking Dead

I was really far behind on this series (like 4 series behind) and so, because the new series is starting on Monday, I felt the need to binge them all…currently, it’s going well.

Last YouTube Video Watched – Hello Neighbor Announcement Trailer

Just got given the alpha for this game so I’ll be doing an “Access Granted” as soon as I can. First impressions of the game are that it is a brilliant idea that needs a little ironing out to be executed perfectly. It is in early alpha though so that’s fine.

Last Book or Article Read – Technically My Own Work

When writing a review, I spend days making sure that everything I’m saying is exactly how I want to say it. I need to make sure that all information is correct and that I’ve thoroughly played the title. So yeah…technically my own article.

Last Piece of Music Listened to – Whiplash Soundtrack

Great movie and even better soundtrack. Perfect modernization of classic jazz pieces and wonderfully executed in the actual movie. Great to listen to when writing a review.
