Preview: Hands-On with Destiny

With us only 2 Weeks away from the launch of highly anticipated Bungie title; Destiny. We have an in depth preview of the title after we got hands on with the game’s Beta.

So to get started off the Destiny beta had me creating my own badass guardian out of 3 different character classes; The Hunter which seemed to be the generic Soldier class which relies on Technology and weaponry, The Titan which worked like a Brute Character with powerful melee attacks aswell as good gun tactics and finally; The Warlock which if it were a Skyrim like game would work like a Necromancer using technology to their advantage and for the players who would like a more Strategic approach. Next I got to choose from 3 different species; Human (Generic looking Human Soldier), The Awoken (Which looks like the Engineers from Prometheus) & Exo (Which is more of a cyborg race) aswell as Gender, Skin Color, Face Shape, Etc..

I was soon after thrown straight into a level set in Old Russia where I had to find a spaceship to survive. The game inside of levels takes on the perspective of  a first person shooter with multiple attacks and skills on offer depending on your class of character. The gameplay ran extremely smooth and felt fluent between melee attacks and gunfire. The beta also featured a leveling up system and upgrade points which could be used towards purchasing new skills to perform devastating new attacks.  After this, My Guardian arrived at the The Tower where I got to socialize with other players in a third person perspective where I could also purchase new items and weapons for my guardian.

Destiny- (10)

After arriving at The Tower for the first time; I ventured into an actual level and what made the game so great was that the game is essentially a first person shooter meets open world with multiple players being able to join the same level as you and unlockables in the level such as hover vehicles and credits. The exploration of Destiny is great  with huge maps to explore properly to find all the hidden objects and truly discover the remains of these ancient places and the graphics help make this look even more stunning with a realistic feel to this quite obvious piece of Science Fiction. The Beta also included the PvP mode which was called Crucible in which players go up against each other in battle across Destiny’s huge maps. All in all, Destiny after getting my hands on the beta astounded me with its exploration and shooting mechanics and if the beta is anything to go by; Then the full game could very well be a contender for game of the year 2014.

Destiny is set to launch worldwide on September 9th 2014 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 & Xbox One. Thanks go out to Activision for supplying the Beta Code & Assets used in this preview. Be sure to let me know what you thought of the preview in the comments section below and be sure to stay tuned to UGNN for all your gaming news and reviews and remember to follow us on WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Reddit & YouTube.
