*Tonight on another action packed episode of Cel Damage*

The Story:

Cel Damage is a highly popular animated demolition derby series airing weekly on the fictional TV network; Toon T.V. Every week a group of cartoon characters take part in the show to earn fame and glory using their own vehicles and weapons. In addition to this every time the characters die, they come back without a scratch due to being cartoons.

The Gameplay:

The gameplay for Cel Damage HD seems like the love child of Twisted Metal & Wacky Races with there being 3 different modes to choose from in the form of Smack Attack; Which requires you to hit your opponent the most times and the best part is you can do it in anyway you like such as using weapons or flipping your car onto another opponent. Next mode is Gate Relay where you must race through the numerous checkpoints and come in first place to come out as the top dog. Finally, the last mode in the game is Flag Rally which requires the player to gather flags to reach the total first. The gameplay is extremely fun and can definitely be enjoyed against the computer and even more against friends. I did encounter a slight glitch in one of the swamp areas when I was driving and the car just drove through the floor into nothingness however the car soon re-appeared where it got blown to pieces by the other contestants. Other than that, I can’t see anymore problems.

The Sound:

In my personal opinion, The Soundtrack for Cel Damage HD is actually not to memorable for me which is rather disappointing considering the incredible soundtracks on most racing titles. The voice acting while it isn’t exactly great is enjoyable and definitely suits the style of game.

The Graphics:

The Graphics for Cel Damage HD are Cel Shaded to give everything the cartoony look the game needed however you can clearly tell that Finish Line Games have sharpened the picture quality compared to the PS2 version giving the whole game a more polished look. Of course one of the many things that makes Cel Damage HD as enjoyable as it is comes thanks to the colorful cast of characters which include Violet (A Goth girl based off Asian Horror Culture), Sinder (A Troublesome Demon who was kicked out of Hell) & B.T. Bruno (A Construction Worker) to name a few.

Lasting Appeal:

Cel Damage HD has plenty of replayability due to the many multiplayer modes aswell as the ability to unlock new characters. This game has plenty of fun and enjoyable moments.

Final Thoughts:

All in all, Cel Damage HD is a fun game to play with friends and against the computer however after a while it does get pretty repetitive thanks to there only being 3 Game modes and of course the glitch didn’t help but still, Cel Damage HD is well worth a check; Especially if your a fan of the original Cel Damage Overdrive.

My Thoughts = 6.5/10

The Good:

  • Very Colorful Levels and Characters
  • Gameplay reminiscent of Twisted Metal
  • The Various array of weapons
  • Enjoyable Voice Acting
  • Plenty of Replayability
  • Cel Shaded Graphics looked great

The Bad:

  • Soundtrack is not very memorable
  • Not much of a real story
  • Minor Glitches found
  • Game can get repetitive

Cel Damage HD is available now for PS4, PS3 & PS Vita from the PS Store and is a Cross Buy Title which means you can buy it on one and have it for all consoles.
