For Tolkien fans, there has been numerous adaptations of his works from The Hobbit starring Leonard Nimoy many a year ago to Peter Jackson’s Epic Trilogy aswell as games such as The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, The War in the North & Battle for Middle Earth. There has always been a way for Tolkien fans to love their favorite world in visual perception and just as we fans are getting ready to revisit Middle Earth in the form of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug; Warner Bros. has come out and revealed they are planning to release a new Middle Earth game on the next gen & current gen.
The game titled Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor is a third person action game set to be released on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 & Xbox One from Monolith Studios; The team responsible for Guardians of Middle Earth & the F.E.A.R. titles. The game will cast you in the footsteps of a Ranger whose family was slain by Sauron’s armies. He is then killed himself however he gets resurrected with “Wraith Abilities” and ready to take on the evil forces of Mordor. While this game involve the rings of power, The game will not be directly linked with the canon of Lord of the Rings however Warner Bros. are promising it will align. Rumors are suggesting that the game will in fact take place between the events of The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings.
The game will see a darker look at Middle Earth with Warner Bros. even stating that the game will make the player see that the personal theme of vengeance will have consequences in a world where consequences could mean life & death. Another new gameplay mechanic being introduced is the nemesis system which will shape the enemy relationships and characteristics based on the players choices & decisions. Warner Bros. also revealed that “Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player.”
Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor doesn’t currently have a release date although it is highly likely that the game will probably be released around the same time as The Hobbit: There & Back Again on DVD & Blu-Ray which will probably hit shelves in 2015.
