Story – Information
Within this page is all of the information on the story currently available:
In Mass Effect Andromeda, the main story will follow either Sarah or Scott Ryder (depending on the player’s choice), as they try and find a new world for humanity.
In 2185, the Andromeda Initiative launches its mission to the Andromeda galaxy. The main population will be on the Nexus, a support hub and temporary home while in Andromeda. The rest of the population will be on one of the 4 Arks also taking the journey; 20,000 humans will be on Ark Hyperion. After reaching Andromeda, the Pathfinder (Elite soldier, Scientist, Diplomat) of each Ark will search the Helius cluster for a potential new home-world.
This peaceful idea soon turns into something completely hostile when a new Alien race called the “Ket” attack humanity and one particular Ket called “Archon” threatens your team. This all points to a story where you must stop him whilst trying to find a new home for your species.
Alec Ryder (Pos: Pathfinder | Station: Hyperion) – Born on Earth in 2129, Alex Ryder says his love of new frontiers was fostered by a childhood in the Sierra Nevadas. According to his service record, he joined the Alliance military and was eventually assigned to Jon Grissom’s historic expedition through the Charon Relay. His experience made him a candidate for what would alter be known as N7 training back on Earth. Alec continued military service, most notably on Shanxi in the First Contact War against the Turians. Assigned as a military attache to the Citadel in the late 2160s, Alec became interested in artificial intelligence as a means of human advancement.
Scott Ryder (Pos: Recruit | Station: Hyperion) – Born on the Citadel space station in 2163. With informal training aided by Alec Ryder’s N7 background. Scott joined the Systems Alliance military and was assigned to an outpost near Arcturus Station overseeing Relay 202. A primary route to Arcturus, this mass relay leads into contested space and has an unsavory reputation. Scott was required to protect Arturus but also had “a front row seat to everyone else going off to fortune and glory”.
Sarah Ryder (Pos: Recruit | Station: Hyperion) – Born on the Citadel station in 2163. With informal training aided by Alex Ryder’s N7 background. Sara joined the Systems Alliance military which was continuing its search for Prothean technology after successfully discoveries on Mars. Initially assigned to peacekeeping duties. Sara was approached to serve a support role for these Prothean researchers. She often describes the thrill of serving with scientists like Mateus Silva on the brink of the next great discovery.
Cora Harper (Pos: Operations | Station: Hyperion) – Lieutenant Cora Harper is a human biotic and formerly an officer in the Systems Alliance military. She was transferred via the Citadel Council’s Valkyrie Program (a subset of their interspecies military integration plan) and placed with the asari commando unit Talein’s Daughters. Cora’s huntress training and biotic capability made her a candidate for Alex Ryder’s second-in-command and if warranted, his successor as Pathfinder.
Liam Kosta (Pos: Crisis Response | Station: Hyperion) – Liam Kosta is a human security and crisis response specialist with civilian tactical training. Liam entered university for engineering but left to train for law enforcement and later transitioned to the multi-species effort of Heavy Urban Search and Crisis Response. His multi-disciplinary skills set him apart, and Liam was hand-picked by Alex Ryder to support the Pathfinder team.
S.A.M (Pos: Implant Ai | Station: Hyperion) – The first Pathfinder neural implants were created by Dr. Ellen Ryder, a pioneer in human biotic implant design. While biotic implants boister and focus electrical signals along the nervous system, Pathfinder implants go a step further by connecting to not only the nervous system, but circulation, endocrine function, and exterceptive senses. Synced with an artificial intelligence, the implants reveal their full potential. The implant is a two-way connection giving full insight into the host’s physical and mental state, while allowing it to generate and alter electrical signals along the host’s neural pathways that the body processes as its own.
Drack (Pos: Veteran Warrior | Station: Unknown) – For this character there is next to no information. However what we do know, is that he will be your krogan squadmate and if he’s krogan, he’ll probably be pretty awesome.
Vetra (Pos: Drifter Mercenary | Station: Unknown) – Other than quick glances this squadmate is also unknown to us. However, we will update if any more information becomes available.
Jaal (Pos: Resistance Fighter | Station: N/A) – This is the only new species crewmate that has currently been revealed. Other than her name and position there is no more information on her/him at the moment.
Peebee (Pos: Rogue Academic | Station: Unknown) – There is little information on Peebee other than the fact that she is an asari that is clearly with the player’s group. Linked below is Peebee’s loyalty mission with NO SPOILERS for those wanting to have a look at her in action.
The Nexus takes inspiration from the Milky-way galaxy’s Citadel Station and acts as the main hub for humanity while the Pathfinder looks for a new home.
When it departs from the Milky-way and starts the 600 year journey to Andromeda, the Nexus will not be fully built and will only be completed when it arrives at it’s destination. After being completed, the Arks will act as extra power and storage space to the station. The Nexus will carry upon it, officials, engineers, traders and security personal; it will act as a distraction for humanity and the other Milky-way races. Within the Nexus, players will find:
- Museum: This will house information on all of the known Milky-way species and has a primary function of assisting new races with knowledge of their home.
- Hydroponic Gardens: These gardens will supply the Nexus with the oxygen required to keep all of the species aboard alive. It will also offer a lush escape for those staying in one of the temporary living areas.
- Vortex Lounge: This will be the bar and social area of the Nexus where you can talk with friends and get yourself a drink. Concept art shows that it will reminiscent of Omega and Purgatory.
- Shops: As there are traders on the Nexus, there will probably not be a short supply of shops and stores where you can buy and sell goods and possibly weaponry.
- Operations Center and Pathfinder HQ: In this center hub for officials, you will be able to share information and discuss projects related to your mission.
Also on the Nexus, will be the return of Avina, a virtual intelligence resource and guide for the Nexus.
The tempest is your ship in the game and will be piloted by Kallo Jath, a Silurian. This ship isn’t very combat heavy, but instead is light, stealthy and easily the fastest ship of her class; it can reach speeds of up to 13 ly per day.
Between missions, you and your crew will call the Tempest home. There are places to relax, like the crew quarters and the galley plus the Pathfinder’s cabin is also located near these locations. Along with these rooms, you will also find:
- Research Room: Available for R&D needs. This is the space for gathering intel and samples acquired and working out there practical use for upgrading everything from weapons, armour, Nomad rover etc.
- Tech and Bio Labs
- Meeting Room: A place where you can gather your crew and video conference with people on the Nexus.
- Tempest Armoury
- Cargo-bay: This area houses the Nomad vehicle
One of the main areas on the Tempest is the bridge; this is where the player will operate the nav-system.
