Hello everyone and welcome to The Weekend Playlist where we tell you whats been occupying our weekends so that you may get some recommendations or be dissuaded from certain titles. This week Me, ThaMaskedGamer & Jonnie have some great recommendations for all of you so lets begin.
Matthew McNamee; Chief Editor at UGNN:
So I just bought this on Saturday and have been playing it non-stop. So far I’ve found numerous references to previous episodes and other video games and this is probably the only game that has had me in stitches since I started it. I’m a huge fan of South Park & I have to say that this is probably the funniest video game I’ve played in a long time. Some of the notable things I like about the game in particular is opening strangers door to find some pretty weird stuff including a Gimp screwing a Horse. This is one game not to be missed.
Last Movie(s) you Watched – Gravity & 300: Rise of an Empire
So this weekend I watched 2 films and both of them I found to be brilliant. The latest film I watched was the stunning visual masterpiece that is Gravity. This film is extremely tense and actually has a pretty scary concept if you picture yourself in the position of the films leads; Sandra Bullock & George Clooney. The film is definitely a visual treat and should have definitely won the Oscar for Best Picture.
The other film I watched this weekend was 300: Rise of an Empire which is the sequel to Zack Snyder’s 300 & takes place during another battle at the same time Leonidas was leading his Spartan Warriors to take on Xerxes. The film has an excellent cast & Gore galore. The battle sequences in this film are incredible and proves that 3D is still a good choice for films. This a Must see so catch it now while its on at the pictures.
Last TV Show(s) you Watched – Arrow & Skins
So I’ve recently started watching Arrow Season 1 again on my Xbox One to view the brutal origins of Oliver Queen in stunning 1080p Resolution. I am a huge fan of Arrow as Green Arrow is easily one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. Stephen Amell was perfectly cast for this show and I’m extremely happy that it has been renewed for a 3rd season.
The other show I started on this week was the 3rd Series of Skins. I loved the first 2 series of this Teen Drama which follows a group of teens as they go through college while dealing with Drugs, Parties, Sex, Death & Generic Chaos. I’ve been trying to watch Series 3 for a long time now so I’m going to start watching 1 or 2 a day.
As mentioned above, Both of these are Great Shows and Must be seen.
Last YouTube Video you Watched – EE Conga Line Advert
I have liked this advert since it first aired since I’m a big fan of Kevin Bacon. The song is extremely catchy and I personally laugh and dance when I see this advert. One things for sure,EE know how to do advertising right.
Last Book or Article you Read – Nothing
Not been reading anything this week unfortunately
Last Piece of Music you Listened to – Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
Ok I know everyone is probably sick of seeing this under my music section but I really adore this song. Its the only song I can listen to over and over again and never get tired of it. My favorite song of all time and a must listen if you haven’t already heard it.
ThaMaskedGamer; YouTube Uploader & Associate of UGNN:
Last Game you Played – Thief
Ok thief has been getting bad reviews one after the other and I disagree this game is great fun.
Last Movie you Watched – Halloween Resurrection
I wanted to watch a Halloween movie and this was the only one I had not seen (I think) I can only say it was ok.
Last TV Show you Watched – Lee Evans: Big at the O2
Not a film or movie but hey it was on a DVD and Lee Evans is hilarious he is a great stand up comedian and I recommend Lee Evans to anyone who wants to have a laugh.
Last YouTube Video you Watched – Lots of Thief Reviews
Just been doing a bit of research on how well Thief is doing. Watched a few too many though so the IGN review is included below.

Persona 4 Golden is one of those games I can come back to an endless amount of times The story, gameplay, soundtrack and characters make it a must own for RPG lovers on the VITA.
Last Movie you Watched – Schindler’s List
Schindler’s list is one of my favorite movies of all time the story is very well told about the story of Oskar Schindler in how he saved over 1000 jewish people, overall its a very long movie but definitely worth a watch.
Last TV Show you Watched – Full Metal Alchemist
Full Metal Alchemist is a Anime about the Elric brothers and their quest to find the philosophers stone, being a big Anime fan I decided to give this a watch after hearing about this from some people.
Last YouTube Video you Watched – Dragonball Z Abridged Episode 39
Dragonball z abridged is a very well done spoof series about the original Dragonball z as the show is one of my top 3 Animes I can just easily get most of the humor and it even got a friend of mine to start watching Dragon ball z.
Last Book or Article you Read – Tales of Zesteria
The ” Tales of ” series isnt one of my favorite series ever but even I am happy about another tales game in development I dont really know a lot about the upcoming tales game but I expect it will be just as good as the rest.
Last Piece of Music you Listened to – Ready Set Go by l’arc en ciel
Ready Steady Go is the theme song for Full Metal Alchemist which I mentioned above I am currently watching most of the song is in japanese but it doesn’t change my opinion that this song just rocks.

Article by Matthew McNamee
Hello everyone and welcome to a new feature to UGNN called Top 10 where I will be doing a top 10 list based on a certain subject. This week I’ve decided to do a next gen special with it only being a few weeks before the Xbox One & PlayStation 4 battle commences and with 2 consoles coming out, I decided to notch this one up to a top 20. So lets begin with this weeks top 20 list; Top 20 next gen games to look out for. Please note: This next gen list is based around games releasing on PS4 & Xbox One. A Wii U list will be going up next week.
20. Strider (PS4, XO, PS3, X360, PC) – Capcom
Kicking things off at #20 is a remake of a classic in the form of Strider. Due to the popularity of the character thanks to the marvel vs capcom series; Capcom have decided to resurrect the series. The game is essentially a retelling of the original arcade Strider but with elements of the NES game. The story is the same as the arcade game where it tells how the Strider organization sends their best assassin Strider Hiryu to kill the villain, Grandmaster, Meio in Kazakh City. The game will be released on the PlayStation Network & Xbox Live in 2014.
19. Dying Light (PS4, XO, PS3, X360, PC) – Warner Bros. Interactive
At #19 is the new game from Techland; The team responsible for the Dead Island series and they are still not moving away from 1st Person Zombie games as their next project is Dying Light; A game that looks like the love child of Dead Island & Mirrors Edge with the ability to create combo weapons to attack any zombies that may get in your way and the best part is; If you get swarmed, You can take to the rooftops and free run across this stunning zombie apocalypse. Oh yeah and in case the title didn’t make it clear for you; It gets a lot more dangerous at night. Dying Light is set to be released in 2014.
18. Tomb Raider 2 (PS4, XO, TBC…) – Square Enix
At #18 is a game that has only been confirmed in an interview at the moment and is still awaiting a logo, a trailer & an official title. Confirmed in a recent interview, A worker from Square Enix had revealed that Crystal Dynamics are currently working on a sequel to this year’s phenomenal reboot of the Tomb Raider series which saw a more vulnerable Lara Croft trying to survive on the ancient island Yamatai. As a personal fan of this year’s Tomb Raider; I was overjoyed when this announcement was made and personally can’t wait to see Lara Croft embark on her first next gen adventure. The Tomb Raider Sequel still awaits a date but should be out in the near future.
17. Thief (PS4, XO, PS3, X360, PC) – Square Enix
At #17 is a blast to the past in the form of Thief which is getting a new reboot from Square Enix. This time (like the Tomb Raider Reboot) its taking influence from the games it inspired; primarily Last Year’s Dishonored. The story for this reboot will take place in a fictional world inspired by Victorian Architecture & Steampunk Aesthetics. Garrett, A Master thief returns to his hometown after being away for a while. He returns to “the city” to find the poor suffering from the plague, the rich lavishing in their wealth & A Tyrant known as “The Baron” pulling all of the strings, So Garrett must head out and twist these problems to his advantage and even the score. Thief will be released on February 28th 2014.
16. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (PS4, XO, PS3, X360, Wii U, PC, 3DS) – Activision
At #16 I couldn’t help including this game as it will probably be a great game. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be set in the same universe as the movie and the most recent game however this title will revolve around a completely original storyline which will see the webslinger on a personal manhunt to find his Uncle Ben’s Killer and taking down any enemies that may get in his way. The game will once again utilize open world gameplay to make you feel like your swinging with Spidey. Also confirmed to be returning is the Peter Parker missions from one of the greatest spidey games; Spider-Man 2. A new morality system has also been included called “Hero or Menace” which will make the people of new york judge you on your actions. For example; Stopping a crime will make you a hero whereas leaving someone to die will make you look like a menace and will therefore make the game harder. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to release opposite the new movie when it hits cinemas in May 2014.
15. Knack (PS4) – Sony Computer Entertainment
Making its way into my #15 spot in this countdown is Knack; The first game to ever be revealed for PS4. Being made by PS4 architect; Mark Cerny. Knack is being referred to as a return to old school PlayStation and is pretty much being called a crossover between Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank & God of War. Knack tells the story of a world in chaos when evil goblins & monsters are trying to take over humanity and in their last stand; the human team assembled to stop the end gets a small addition in the form of Knack who can change his body to complete the tasks he is confronted with. Knack will be available from November 29th (PS4 Launch Day).
14. Star Wars Battlefront (PS4, XO, PC) – EA Games
The force is strong with #14 in the list as Star Wars Battlefront is making a return to consoles in the next generation. The game will be handled by EA & DICE in co-operation with Disney Interactive Studios. The teaser shown at E3 this year received highly positive feedback from both the audience and the big websites like IGN & Gamespot. The teaser was only a few seconds long but showed that one of the settings in the game will be Hoth. Star Wars Battlefront doesn’t have an official release date yet although EA have said they are hoping to release it in Q2/Q3 2015 to coincide with Star Wars Episode VII coming to cinemas.
13. Sunset Overdrive (XO) – Microsoft/ Insomniac
In #13 on my list is upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive from Insomniac Games who are famously known for creating legendary franchises; Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank & Resistance aswell as this years FUSE. A Change from working on Sony projects; Insomniac are working with Microsoft to create this fun looking free run shooter that includes what appears to be the charm of the Ratchet series & Blood thirsty mutants, Add in the fact it looks like a Fanta advert gone wrong and you have a good looking game. Sunset Overdrive will be released on Xbox One sometime in the near future.
12. Killzone: Shadow Fall (PS4) – Sony Computer Entertainment
Shooting its way into #12 is Sony FPS Killzone: Shadow Fall; The series’ Next Gen Debut. Killzone Shadow Fall will be set 30 years after the events of Killzone 3 and the home world of Helghan has been left in ruins as the war continues. When ISA let Helghan Refugees try to resettle on the planet vekta. The Helghast fight for their right to exist which leads to a cold war of sorts. Due to the even further future setting, More gadgets are available in this installment with area drones and grappling tethers included. Killzone Shadow Fall is set to be released on November 29th 2013 (PS4 Launch Day)
11. Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, XO, PC) – Ubisoft
Making its way into #11 on my list is The Division; A Game from the late great mind of master espionage author, Tom Clancy (r.i.p). The game is set to be a tactical third person shooter MMO and is inspired by Operation Dark Winter & Directive 51; Real life events that revealed just how vulnerable we all are. In the game, Society has become “fragile” & “complex” as a virus released on Black Friday causes the United States of America to collapse in just 5 days. The player is part of a group called “Strategic Homeland Division (SHD)”, called “The Division” for short. This group was established to combat the threat and do whatever it takes to “save what remains” in a massive multiplayer online situation, putting them against friends, AI, and other players. Tom Clancy’s The Division is set for release in Q4 2014.
10. Quantum Break (XO) – Microsoft
In #10 of my list, I have chosen Quantum Break; Another upcoming Xbox One exclusive which like Defiance is getting a TV series (exclusively made for Xbox One) which will be affected by the way you play. Quantum Break comes from Remedy Entertainment who recently worked on Max Payne 3 with R*. Quantum Break is set in the fictional north eastern U.S. Riverport University where a time travel experiment goes horribly wrong and gives 3 people (Main Characters) the ability to manipulate time. The game will also have live action cutscenes blended in with regular gameplay. The names of the 3 main characters have been revealed to be Jack Joyce, Beth Wilder & Paul Serene. One of the powers that Paul acquires has been revealed to be the power to look into the future to make decisions in the present. Quantum Break is set to be released in the near future.
9. Watch Dogs (PS4, XO, PS3, X360, Wii U, PC) – Ubisoft
Hacking into #9 on my list is ubisofts upcoming stealth action game; Watch Dogs which puts you in control of Aiden Pearce, A vigilante who hacks into the city of Chicago’s mainframe to find potential threats to the public and put an end to them. The game also features numerous advantages gameplay wise and allows you to control Chicago from your finger tips aswell as utilizing the online features to allow another player to hack into your campaign mode which triggers a fun little manhunt. Unfortunately, Watch Dogs has been delayed to Q2 2014 from its original release date of November 22nd (Xbox One Launch) & November 29th for PS4 users.
8. inFamous: Second Son (PS4) – Sony Computer Entertainment/ Sucker Punch Studios
Making its next gen comeback and at #8 in my list is the inFamous series with latest entry; Second Son. Second Son unlike the previous installments will feature a new protagonist called Delsin Rowe (Voiced & Mo capped by Troy Baker) who unlike Cole McGrath will be able to have many powers that include Smoke. The game will be set a few years after the events of inFamous 2 and will take place in a real city in a world where Superhumans are feared and eradicated by a secure task force. inFamous Second Son is set to be released in February 2014.
7. Titanfall (XO, X360, PC) – EA Games
Dropping into #7 on my list is another Xbox exclusive from EA Games called Titanfall. Titanfall is looking to be one of the best first person shooters in a long time with players getting the chance to play as 2 types of characters; “Pilots” who are free running soldiers who can easily run along walls in the futuristic maps or the giant mech walkers that can be controlled by Pilots called “Titans”. The game is one of the first of its kind in the fact it is an Online Multiplayer game that has single player elements such as a plot, character chatter & Non Playable characters. Titanfall has won over 60 awards so far at events like E3 & Gamescom and is set to be released on March 13th 2014.
6. The Evil Within (PS4, XO, PS3, X360, PC) – Bethesda
Creeping into #6 is one of the only survival horror titles in my list; The Evil Within. From the creator of Resident Evil, The game follows a detective who goes to investigate a mass murder at a mental asylum but when his partners go missing, He must journey into the mental asylum and face the nightmares that lurk inside aswell as his sanity. The Creator said he wanted to make this game to bring games back to the world of survival horror with Blood, Gore & Action aswell as Tactics & Puzzle Solving. The game is also reportedly set to be one of the hardest and scariest games of the next gen with some enemies so deadly, you have to literally run for your life. One thing is for certain, This game is certainly looking to be the next Resident Evil. The Evil Within is set to be released sometime in 2014.
5. Final Fantasy XV (PS4, XO) – Square Enix
After all this time, the wait is almost over for my game at #5. Unveiled as Final Fantasy Versus XIII back in May 2006, Final Fantasy XV has consistently seen delays to its development but finally it has been revealed for the PS4 & Xbox One. This entry in the long running franchise sees the series take a much darker & more realistic tone as it tells the story of Noctis. The game also features a more realistic version of the battle system famously seen in the Kingdom Hearts Series which allows the character to move and attack at the same time. Final Fantasy XV is still in development and will be released in the near future.
4. Kingdom Hearts III (PS4, XO) – Square Enix
At #4, Another title that people have been waiting anxiously for. Kingdom Hearts III will serve as the final part of the Dark Seeker Saga and will continue from where Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance left off. Once again, Players will take the role of Sora as he teams up with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck & Goofy to try and put an end to the heartless once and for all. According to recent news, Roxas is apparently going to make an appearance in this title aswell as the possibility of Mickey being a playable character. Apparently they are also looking into including multiplayer aswell as worlds based on Lucasarts, Marvel & Pixar products. Kingdom Hearts III has just recently started development and we will see this game sometime in the future.
3. Metal Gear Solid V [The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes] (PS4, XO, PS3, X360, PC) – Konami
In #3 is the first & only game from Konami and it comes in the form of Metal Gear Solid V; the next part in Hideo Kojima’s stunning series. The game will be split into 2 parts and will serve as a sequel to Peace Walker and a prequel to Metal Gear Solid and will see Big Boss (Known in phantom pain as Punished Snake & Snake in Ground Zeroes) return as the protagonist. This game marks the first time that David Hayter hasn’t voiced Snake as he has instead been replaced with Kiefer Sutherland. The game also features new elements to the series that include free running, environment use, vehicles, horse stealth and more. Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes is set to be released in Spring 2014 for £19.99 on PS3, Xbox 360 & PC & £29.99 on PS4 & Xbox One. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will probably be released later that year.
2. Mirrors Edge (PS4, XO, PC) – EA Games
Just short of 1st place and running into #2 is Mirrors Edge. Mirrors Edge is being made as a prequel to the first title and will show the origins of Faith Connors; The protagonist of the first title. The game will utilize the brand new frostbite 3 engine and thanks to the technology on offer with PS4 & Xbox One. The game will now be open world giving you the opportunity to fully explore the city introduced in the first game. Mirrors Edge will be released when it is ready.
1. Dead Rising 3 (XO) – Microsoft/ Capcom
Finally in my #1 spot is an Xbox Exclusive, Dead Rising 3. The game will take place in a fictional interpretation of Los Angeles as you are put into the footsteps of Nick Ramos, A Mechanic who has to try and survive the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. The game brings back the combo weapon system enhancing on it with the ability to combine weapons anywhere aswell as the ability to do custom vehicles. The game will also have Kinect features & Xbox Smartglass compatibility. Dead Rising 3 will be released on November 22nd 2013 (Xbox One Launch Day).
So everyone, thats my list. Do you agree with my choices? What is your lists for next gen games? Let me know in the comments section below and be sure to stay tuned to UGNN for all your gaming news and reviews aswell as next weeks installment of Top 10.

As many of you may already know, Thief is a stealth/ action franchise from Square Enix which appeared in the PS2, Xbox Generation and is also one of the main inspirations for last year’s sleeper hit, Dishonored.
